Cutting-Edge

By dressing in designer clothes, you are sure to look cutting-edge whenever you step out of the house.

It is difficult for most people to afford a whole season of designer cutting-edge fashions, so learning how to find classic pieces (see below) that can blend with cutting-edge pieces is an important skill.

Cutting-edge fashions are going to be in style for a season or two, and fade into the back of your closets. Examples of contemporary cutting-edge styles are very puffy sleeves, and bubble skirts. They look great now, but in two years the styles of the times will inevitably change as the hemlines of our skirts do. Buy a few pieces to stay current, but don’t build a new wardrobe using them as your main staples.

How do you look cutting-edge without looking like you are trying too hard? Many people on the street see a fashion trend and buy into it with too much gusto and end up looking like a teenager. This happens when we wear too many trends at once (like boot shoes and bubble dress with big earrings). All of these may be cool independently, but sometimes all together they can look like we are trying too hard.

To avoid this, wear only the best fabrics and you will always look chic, not overly trendy. Also, buying ultramodern flamboyant accessories such as purses, shoes, and jewelry are great investments as they draw attention and are easy to pack away at the end of the trend- don’t throw them out, the will one day be vintage cool (see vintage dressing).
