2009 Fall Fashion Trends: 80’s
![]() No one is more retrospective than a designer, so often they look to the past to direct us into the future. Again and again designers have looked back to the 80’s for inspiration and it seems very fitting that in the midst of a world economic crisis designers would look back to the excessive and extravagant style of the 80’s, maybe as a reminder or even as motivation to keep moving forward towards brighter days ahead? Who really knows why, but one thing is for sure the shoulders, leather and electric colors from the famed decade continues to be an inspiration to designers this fall. Surprisingly, Gucci was one collection that showed a lot of influence from the 80’s with a menswear inspired glistening gray pleated pant suit and a hot pink polka dot skin tight mini complete with oversized shoulders. Not surprisingly though, Marc Jacobs revealed more interpretations of 80’s chic with bold shoulders, bright colors and even the infamous 1980’s rouching. Its straight 80’s in the 21st century. ![]()
