Alexa Chung inspires Mulberry Alexa bag

Every "It" girl needs an "It" bag. And ideally, one named after her.

Lucky for Alexa Chung, Mulberry is helping the model solidify her stylish status with the British brand's new "Alexa" handbag, elevating her to the ranks of perpetually cool girls like Jane Birkin, Jessica Stam, Daria Werbowy and others who all have their own eponymous designer bags (by Hermes, Marc Jacobs and Luella, respectively).

Mulberry's obsession with Chung began when designer Emma Hill saw the former MTV hostess -- and fellow Brit -- photographed carrying the brand's masculine briefcase-like "Elkington" bag.

Hill was so inspired she took the rugged feel and shape of the "Elkington," updated it with some feminine detailing, and slapped the name "Alexa" on it, after its muse.

Since receiving the slouchy "Alexa" from Hill, Chung has carried the drool-inducing utilitarian bag, which can be hung from the crook of one's arm or slung across the shoulder, throughout the Spring 2010 New York runway shows, and in turn, inciting jealousy among fashionistas everywhere.

These Alexa are available in both oversized and regular sized totes in numerous colors from brown and navy to a hot pink leopard print at Mulberry.
