Eye makeup can have as many or few steps, depending on the look you are trying to achieve.  Always start your look with basic eye concealer or foundation to give your eye an even and natural base.  To get rid of dark circles choose a yellow base concealer, but to diminish the appearance of puffiness choose a concealer that has a pink undertone to it.  Your concealer should be one to two shades lighter than your natural skin tone.  Finish with a light dusting of powder to prepare your skin for the shadow.

Applying your eye makeup no matter what season will take the same fundamental steps, but what will change are the colors and focus of your eye makeup depending on the season’s trends.  For example, this Fall we are seeing a comeback of the dark eye with heavy emphasis on black eyeliner and rich smoky eye shadows.  The ambassador for this heavy eye would have to be Chanel this season with both their Venice collection and Noir Obscure collection which have rich fall palettes for the eyes.

Eye Shadow:

Eye shadows can compliment your eyes really well, but it is important to choose the appropriate shades and properly apply.  If your skin has a golden undertone, choose shades that are pinker and try to avoid yellow hues.  For those with pink undertones, stay away from pink hues and chose more golden color ranges.  Or choose shades that are close to your natural skin color such as taupe and nude shades for a more conservative and safe look.  Basic eye shadow application would include a light shade complimented by a color with similar undertones at least three shades darker.  The light color should be evenly applied over the entire lid and the dark color blended into the lid only to the crease.

Eye Liner:

Applying eyeliner after eye shadow can help to further define the shape of your eye.  To make your eyes appear larger focus on applying eyeliner towards the outside edge of your lid and avoid applying it on the inside.  Eye liner colors should be chosen according to your eye color, skin tone, and time of day.  For dark hair, dark eyes and light skin choose dark shades of eyeliners to enhance and enlarge your eye.  For the daytime, stick with browns or deep grey shades to keep a natural and fresh day time appropriate look.  At night try a midnight blue instead of black liner to compliment and brighten your eye color, because it is still a very dark color your eye will also appear larger.  Black eye liner is most suitable for evening and night time; it is especially fabulous when paired with smoky eyes.

Finish your look off with your favorite mascara.  To achieve long lashes look for mascaras that will separate and lengthen your lashes.  To add volume to your lashes look for thick brushes that will create rich voluminous lashes and help to open up the eye.
